samantha hernandez is a multidisciplinary experimental artist with primary focuses in sonic and written compositions. experimentation with unconventional sound and texture began in 2006 with rudimentary software, moving towards a more hardware-centric approach in 2008. 2012 saw a hiatus from working with experimental sound with a heavier focus on stream-of-consciousness writing and various subgenres of punk. following a cross-country move in 2017 and dissolving of a subsequent band in 2019 enegry was returned to experimental sound.

parasite nurse was conceived in 2019 with intentions of being a cut up harsh noise project using modest gear and limited knowledge of method and technique. a number of self released cd-rs, 3” cd-rs and tapes were released using minimal, inexpensive gear with a focus on harsh sonic composition and less on narrative. the release of deprivation [pressortape] saw a distinct shift in composition incorporating ambient softsynths, various new samplers and loopers. the following couple of years would see gear upgrades, technique refinement and a stronger, more defined focus on subject matter. 2022 would see a departure from previous sounds and techniques delving into eurorack allowing for deep exploration of ambient soundscapes, sample processing and long-form composition leading to releases on dead gods, aad and oxen records.

with growing interest in hardware synthesizers, a need to focus on other textural and ambient experimentation blossomed and was realized with theia’s debut tape fatal crush [fusty cunt] and samantha hernandez’s debut tape therapeutic excruciation [strange material]. hostility glutton is a collaborative effort with jackson kovalchik (jhk, kudzu, fucked) and seven caso (eating scabs for protien, scab addict, mound of glass) that saw beginnings as a collaborative compositional effort eventually devolving into a study of texture, sheet metal and aggression. virago is a stripped down take on power electronics utilizing minimal gear and cold synth tones.

2023 saw the release of when is it my turn? a written exploration of disgust, disappointment and unconventional relationships to sex and affection. an expansion of previous stream of consciousness writing techniques with a cloudy but clear narrative and experimental usage of formatting, phrasing and punctuation in order to evoke a deeply uncomfortable experience.
